As technology advances, more and more of us are dependant on it for our livelihood as well as entertainment. Unfortunately, that tends to make us mouse and couch potatoes, which often leads to weight problems. If you find yourself in this predicament, here are a few tips to help you succeed in regaining a healthy weight.
Rule Number One:
See Your Doctor:
That should be the first step in any change of lifestyle, including dieting and exercise. This will help you develop a plan that gives you the best chance at success, avoiding injuries and preventing harmful medical conditions.
Rule Number Two:
Choose Your Food Wisely:
If you are hungry all of the time, you may want to change the foods you eat that allow you to stay within your calorie limits. To do this, it is sometimes best to consult a nutritionist. The nutritionist can explain how you can satisfy some of the cravings without heading to the burger and fries place nearby. He or she can also help make sure your diet is diversified.
Rule Number Three:
Exercise Choices:
Boredom is one of the most frequent causes for diet/exercise failure. If you don’t like the exercise, or if it has become stale, you may want to look into other activities that burn calories. As an example, if the treadmill is boring, try hiking instead.
You may also have time problems, but there is a way around that. It’s called the 10,000 step a day program, and all it takes is a $5 pedometer. It’s handled this way. When you go to work, school or the market, park as far away from your desired entrance as possible and walk there. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. You’ll find that it doesn’t take a lot of extra time to get those steps in, but that you are getting the exercise you need.
Rule Number Four:
The Chew Factor:
I didn’t understand this problem until our younger daughter got a horse. What’s the relationship? Horses have an instinctive need to chew things. If not enough hay is provided, they will eat their stall, the fence or anything else they can wrap their lips around.
We humans are the same way, to a degree. I found that chewing sugar free gum actually helped stop some of the food cravings. It gave me the instinctive feeling that I had eaten enough without having to consume extra calories.
Rule Number Five:
Eat Enough:
This is probably the second most important rule after your visit to the doctor. Many enthusiastic dieters will go on a starvation diet and couple it with intense workouts. That is a recipe for disaster. You need to keep the deficit between consumed and burned to fifteen percent or less. If you don’t, your body’s “starvation mode” will kick in and you won’t be able to lose any more weight.
As you can see, these tips aren’t that difficult, but they can make a huge difference in the success of your new goals.
